Yes, they actually ran (shame-shame-shame!) a 3200, but whatever 8-lap race you want to call it, the Arcadia men's one last weekend was the deepest in prep history, says T&FN High School Editor Jack Shepard.
First, here's the top end of the results, with times as taken, and as converted to 2M by T&FN formula:
3200: 1. Solinsky (Stevens Point, Wi) 8:43.24 (HSL) (11, x HS) <worth 8:46.28 for 2M>;
2. Vaughn (Smoky Hill, Aurora, Co) 8:45.60 <8:48.65>; 3. Moe (Riverside, Auburn, Wa) 8:48.04 <8:51.11>;
4. Curtis (Xavier, Louisville) 8:48.39 <8:51.46>;
5. Debole (Mt Tabor) 8:50.16 <8:53.24>;
6. Hassen (Vanguard, Ocala, Fl) 8:52.75 <8:55.84>;
7. Ruiz (Monroe, N Hills, Ca) 8:55.80 <8:58.91>;
8. Trafeh (Duarte, Ca) 8:55.87 <8:58.98>;
9. Kollar (Strongsville, Oh) 8:56.35 <8:59.47>;
10. Nelson (Liberty, Redding, Ca) 8:58.89 <9:02.02>;
11. Alizzi (Syosset, NY) 8:59.63 <9:02.76>;
12. Dalpiaz (Sayville, NY) 9:01.20 <9:04.34>.
Looking at preps-only races, that race generated best-ever marks-for-place in places: 3 through 12, 15, and 18.
And with 11—or 9 in a 2M frame of reference—the race had the most sub-9:00 performers ever: ’81 Cal State and ’02 Arcadia each had 6, in both yard and metric sense. Three other 2M races had 5: ’72 Cal State, ’73 Golden West, ’74 Cal State). In short, wow!
