Chelanga is off the straightaway well before the main pack enters it.

Main pack has all but the Florida kid, who fell back early, and one other just starting to fall back. (Plus the first two well off the front.)

Sounds like Puskedra gave it a shot but is now getting swallowed back up.

Puskedra is still in the pack at 7600m - it goes all the way back to about 18th - but he is slipping back through it.
Not exactly what you want to see if you hoped he was going to settle in with them for the kick.

Must say in defense of Izewski of Florida - he was someone that was a total shock to make the field, as Bruce Kritzler noted last week. He was dropped way before anyone else in this race, but ended up in 18th, 29:37, did not get lapped unlike several of his compatriots.

                  Re: NCAA m10,000: 7:25 Thursday

I had hoped Ahmed would do well and, like NCAA XC he was the first freshman; however, here he is fourth, not 20-something. I suspect he will be looking top 10 next fall. It is a new Canadian Junior record, as his 29:02 to win Big Tens was a CJrR.

Poor Lex Williams (Mich) continues to under-perform in the big meets.

Also, on LetsRun someone (well, not just someone, malmo) pointed out that

Only 3 of the top 8 would have qualified for the NCAAs with a descending order scheme, and two of those were 18/19.

NCAA Place and descending order qualifying

                  1. (1) Sam Chelanga
                  2. (44) John Kosgei
                  3. (18) Jake Riley
                  4. (25) Mohammed Ahmed
                  5. (45) Kiel Uhl
                  6. (56) Joe Bosshard
                  7. (57) Ben Cheruiyot
                  8. (19) Alfred Kipchumba
