I look forward to a series of sub 50 400m and sub 1.58 800m results that will not be reproduced in Barcelona or anywhere else West of Finland... :P

How did the delightful Ms. Klishina perform in LJ qualifying?

Well... for the past couple of seasons I have witnessed the Russian women actually backing up their trial times in other meets, especially in the 400 and the 800.

Krivoshopka definitely reproduced in Berlin, although not in a PB but a nice run into sub-50. Savinova wasn't that far off her SB either in Berlin although she did fall out of the medals. I dare say they are finally getting the hang of peaking about 4 times for the year. For their indoor trials, for the indoor champs, for the outdoor trials and the outdoor champs.

Results from today's morning session qualifying rounds

100H: Tatyana Dektyareva 12.74, Olga Samylova 12.76, Yekaterina Shamarina 12.95, Olga Korsunova 12.97, Aleksandra Antonova 12.98, Irina Shevchenko 12.99
          110H: Konstantin Shabanov 13.44

The men's HJ qualifying also took place today. Of the current top performers, Eduard Malchenko (2.30 this year) was the only one who did not make the final. Reigning world champion Yaroslav Rybakov got a free pass to the ECh team, but he announced he wasn't in top shape and would not be going to Barcelona.

I know, but apparently that's not good enough for him.

Re: Russian NC, Saransk, 12-15 July

The women's 400 final produced surprising results, but was disappointing in terms of times achieved:
                  1 Kseniya Ustalova 50.33
                  2 Anastasiya Kapachinskaya 50.52
                  3 Tatyana Firova 50.88
                  4 Antonina Krivoshapka 51.16
                  5 Natalya Nazarova 51.30

Krivoshapka will now likely not make the team for the individual 400, which is a major upset. And Nazarova, who seemed to be back in form in the heats, couldn't produce in the final.

                    surprised at Krivoshapka
                    and who's Ustalova?

                    Natalia Antyukh
she's the big favorite in Barcelona

women's 800m and LJ will be a cracker
hope Darya Klishina and Tatyana Kotova make the team

men's HJ was also expected a big contest of 4, but with Rubakov dropping off not anymore
though the Russians will have a very strong trio ( Ukhov, Silnov and Shustov )

                      oh dear

                      Women's Long jump
                      1 Lyudmila Kolchanova 7,01
                      2 Tatiana Kotova 6,90
                      3 Tatiana Chernova 6,79 2.4
                      4 Olga Kucherenko 6,78
                      5 Darya Klishina 6,73 :|
                      6 Yelena Sokolova 6,67
                      11 Irina Meleshina Simagina 6.57

                      isn't Chernova the heptathlete? :?
that might mean she won't be in the team which leaves one spot for Klishina or Kucherenko and they've both gone over 7.00m this year...

                      Women's 800m
                      1.Tatiana Andrianova 2.00.96
                      2.Svetlana Klyuka 2.01.77

                      Women's HJ
                      1.Svetlana Shkolina 1.97
                      2.Irina Gordeyeva 1.94
                      3.Yekaterina Savchenko 1.85

HJ is pretty weak without Chicherova and Slesarenko

She's been around a little while- is only 22 and was a European Junior medallist a few seasons back if I recall. She's made her breakthrough this year- she was the Russian representative at the European Team Champs this year as well.

Isn't it about time Natalya Nazarova tried something different now? She is consistently 4th or 5th in the outdoor Russian Champs. Maybe she needs to do an Antyukh or a Kotlyarova and see how she fares...

Can you believe that so far the top ranked Russian female 1500m runner only has a 4.07.69 in mid July !!

Of course this will no doubt change by the end of their national champs, but it does make me feel more confident that we won't hear of the large numbers of Russian drug cheats after the Euro's like we did in Gothernburg...
