  • Some guy called Webb

Turns out Alan Webb is still alive and running:

"...preparing for four or five races in Europe in late summer, beginning with a 1,500 at London on Aug. 14."
Nice story about him training with Salazar and Rupp here:
    http://portlandtribune.com/sports/story ... 6665125200

"Salazar has focused on two things to help Webb — diet and running form."
“He used to have a lot of wasted motion going side to side with each stride,” Salazar says. “His arms were going out to the side, his feet were splayed out. He wasn’t like that when he was younger, but as he got older he gained too much muscle weight and his form got worse. He is landing on a straight line now. He’s still not perfect, but his center of gravity is better.”
As an aside, it's pretty funny that I couldn't even get a search result on here for "webb" as it was "too common" a phrase 8-)

i think london on august 13-14, has the mile not the 1500.
london is releasing some names onto their website and it has asbel kiprop and a. choge, but webb is not on the list yet.

as long as it has been since he has raced/or raced well, i am surprised he is starting off with a diamond league race, i dont think salazar would not put him in if he were not ready.

Started jogging 1mi/day in June. I'd be very surprised if he races in August, even more surprised if he produces quality times.

            Three thoughts come to mind:

--Based on that article, I wouldn't have expected Webb to be ready for DL races either.

--It is kind of a surprise to not see Wheating in this race

--Are there lower key races available in Europe in August or is the DL it?

If everybody's healthy next years USATF 1500 final should be a doozy. But there I go again: wishing and yearning.

Wheating is in the 800 in London.

Is the mile a DL event there?

very exciting to hear this news. he's slimmed down quite a bit, it would be great to see him get back to that level again.

Note Salazar playing down expectations for this season. Not looking for a PR. Says he'd be happy with 3:37. Would we?

I would be thrilled to see a guy who has been off and on injured for 2 years, with little training to run 3:37. Would even more thrilled if Salazar can fix Webb's side to side arm carriage.

I agree 100%, Squack. Do a few solid races. Stay healthy. Rip it up 2011-2012.
