  • Texas Relays Results

Three American teams have just ran under 39s in the 4x1. Results:

    1. USA Red - 38.14
(Jon Drummond, Bernard Williams, Darvis Patton, J.J. Johnson)
    2. HSI - 38.30
(Mickey Grimes, Leonard Scott, Ato Boldon, Maurice Greene)
    3. USA Blue - 38.71
(Shomari Wilson, Terrance Trammell, Allen Johnson, Justin Gatlin)

Decent running for this time of year. I reckon that the winning team is a pretty accurate representation of what the US Olympic team will be. Judging by the HSI team's time, it doesn't looks as though any of them are getting any better. Looks like another 4x1 without Mo on the team.

Also, if Monty doesn't get back to sub-10 form, then he could also be left off the relay (especially with his awkward 4x1 history). JJJ's anchor leg running of 2003 will put him in goodsted to be the anchor for the Olympic team. The only change I can see is replacing Bernard with Gatlin on 2nd leg, but I suppose that it will all depend on how their seasons go this year.

Nothing amazingly spectacular in the men's 4x4, but the winning team (James Carter, Leonard Byrd, Corey Nelson, Derrick Brew) ran 3:01.58. Pretty good, considering that maybe none (1-2 at most) of these 4 runners will be on the US 4x4 Olympic team! The Collegiate 4x4 was arguably more exciting, as three teams went under 3:02!!

The college 100m has also just been run. After a 10.11 (+2.2w) in the prelim, Steve Mullings ran a windy (+2.9) 10.05 in the final, followed by Tyrone Edgar (10.26). DaBryan Blanton ran 10.22 (wind +1.4) in the Uni 100m.

Muna Lee won the women's Uni 100m in 11.31, followed by Lakadron Ivery (11.34) and Kerron Stewart (11.48). In the 100mH, Lolo Jones ran a windy (+3.1) 12.78. Nichole Denby equalled that time but was given 2nd place by 4/1000th's.

Brendan Christian won the men's 100m in a windy (+2.2) 10.13, followed by Churandy Martina (10.19) and Pierre Browne (10.22).

Larry Wade opened his season with a cracker! He improved his own WL to 13.13 (wind +1.8). 2nd place was way behind (Chris Pinnock in 13.47).

Brianna Glenn is showing a bit of form. She won the 100m in 11.38 (wind +3.5) ahead of Mary Onyali 11.41 (looks like she's giving the 2004 season a go!)

Angela White also enjoyed an easy win in the sprint hurdles. Her WL 12.79 (wind +1.3) was well ahead of Virginia Miller's 13.16.

The women's 4x100m winners had an easy win, but the time wasn't quite as quick as you'd expect. The team of Angela Daigle, Chryste Gaines, Inger Miller and Torri Edwards ran a WL 42.70 to beat the team of Ashlee Williams, Raasin McIntosh, Natasha Staten and Sanya Richards (43.58).

Allyson Felix contributed to the winning women's 4x4 team on 3rd leg. She was joined by Ellannee Richardson, Debbie Dunn and Mary Danner to run 3:25.90

The women's 4x4 WL, however, was set by University of Texas (Sheretta Jones, Raasin McIntosh, Jerrika Chapple, Sanya Richards) who ran a brilliant 3:23.75.

    Re: Texas Relays Results

103 of 105 current (16.31 GMT+1) pole voters on Trackshark think that with three teams at 3.01 this is THE deepest 4x400m the NCAA has ever seen. IF those teams from the Texas Relays can reach the depth achieved at the 1992 NCAA Championships when GA Tech ran 2.59,95; USC took 2nd in 3.00,58; and Baylor grabbed the bronze in 3.00,64 - each, coincidentally, still on the top-10 all-time results, then others may agree.

However, at this stage, those times were fast, but not on the top-10 lists... Baylor made it to "only" #5 on their own all-time list with their 3.01,06.

How about 3rd runner Jerrika Chapple for a comer? Same age as anchor Sanya Richards, and she outsplit her 50.1-50.3. Chapple's best in HS last year was 52.77.

Reports say that HSI had a horrible handoff between Boldon and Greene .. And that Greene was behind Johnson and actually made up some ground on him during the race ..

How does one look at the time of a relay team and determine that a single member was the cause of the loss or did not run up to par ??

All I said was "doesn't look as though any of them (HSI) are getting any better"....

            Re: Texas Relays Results

My only observation in looking at the results/times/particpants on those first 2 sprint relay teams was that they were FAST. Who won, and the microscopic differences in times, are meaningless at this point... variables of passes, etc. Any of these 8 as an example can RUN FAST.

Does anyone know why the IAAF can post all the splits for the Texas team including Chapple 50.1 and Richards 50.3, while the TR site has no splits listed for anyone? Certainly would like to know what Felix ran, and how the IAAF got their splits.

Check the byline on the IAAF story: Jim Dunaway, longtime Eastern Editor for T&FN. He'd never file a story that didn't have essential split information.

Somewhat overlooked was a very fast 4x200 from the LSU team of Hazel-Ann Regis, Monique Hall, Nadia Davy and Muna Lee averaging 22.60 each, for a time of 1:30.42.

Yeah, Greene made up a large amount of ground on Johnson. Might have passed him if he had another 20 or 30 meters.

Go Lady Horns! Man, I knew they had the talent to break the 4x4 record, but I never expected 3:23. That's insane. When I first saw it, I assumed it was a typo.

Tight schedule? C'mon gm, it's a day later and they're still not there. (And if you tell us that once they're posted on that site, they can't be updated, I'll tell you to tell the Texas folks to get another program.)
