Rupp was hanging in there with 3 to go, they broke away to show a Jav throw, when they came back he was gone!

PRs for Kiptoo, Gebremeskel and Merga, and a nice run by Solinsky with a PR 12:55.53 for 5th. 2nd fastest American all-time.

Solinsky just misses AR, now has 2 of 4 fastest U.S. times ever:

              12:54.12 Bernard Lagat (Nike) 6/04/10
12:55.53 Chris Solinsky (Oregon TC) 8/06/10
              12:56.27 Dathan Ritzenhein (Nike) 8/28/09
              12:56.66 Solinsky 6/04/10
              12:58.21 Bob Kennedy (Nike) 8/14/96
              12:58.56 Matt Tegenkamp (Nike) 9/04/09

I believe it's his HS coach posting on letsrun that he was told that Rupp fell but is fine.

                  Phenom result for Solinsky!!!

The next few seasons really might be off the charts for American middle-distance and distance running, what with Rupp, Solinsky, Teg, Ritz, Webb, and most importantly of all: WHEATING!!! I mean, just basic statistics and probability says that between the 6 of them, at least 1 (or 2 or more) of them should luck out and not struggle with any injuries or issues and get a good optimal season or 2 in a row of pure, optimal awesomeness and just straight up light the track on fire and put up some serious East African type numbers at Worlds and then at London.

Man it would really be neat to see one (or possibly several) of them medal in the 800m-10,000m in London. That would be pretty hardcore.

                  I'm pumped!

In addition to those runners discussed by NPE above it was mentioned on another thread on this site a few weeks ago that Chelanga is applying for US citizenship and he would be a legitimate 10k threat. Also, German Fernandez , if he stays healthy, could be a threat in 2 years.Bring it on!

It's great that Solinsky ran a 5k PR and it's great to see so many Americans go under 13:00. But when are they actually going to win races? When are they actually going to beat the Kenyans, Ethiopians, and Moroccans at their own game? Will we ever see Solinsky drop the hammer in a 5K and leave the Africans in the dust sucking wind? Or is Sonlisky the new Big Mzungu?

After so many years of the alternative, at this point, I am ecstatic to see guys like Solinsky still in contention with less than a lap to go. It does not matter to me if they aren't winning the races yet if at least they are there til the final sprint. Solinksy was great today.

Oh no doubt! Like I said it's great to see all these Americans run sub 13:00. The next step is to start winning big races. I believe if just one American took it to the Africans in one big race that could open the flood gates and show the other American runners that they, too, can win big races.

The ONLY way is by competing with the best, which is exactly what Solinksy is doing--and doing very well.

Remember only 6 weeks or so ago when some here were saying that he shouldn't bother going to Europe at all? The Euro circuit is athletics graduate school, and the serious athletes learn well...
