Re: BOLT SEASON FINNISH WITH BACK PROBLEMS

Just reviewed a closeup shot of the race and Bolt was clearly in some discomfort. His management team made the best decision to pull him from the rest of the season.

His manager Norman Peart said on TV tonight, that Bolt's currently injury is similar to the injury to his back that he had in the 2004 to 2005 season. He is confident with treatment and rest, Bolt will be back blazing next year.

Re: BOLT SEASON FINNISH WITH BACK PROBLEMS

It's probable that the car accident he had may have contributed to his back problems...they said he was not injured in the accident, but it doesn't take much jostling in even a minor accident to make a susceptible back worse...and sometimes the main symptoms aren't felt for weeks.

This seems to be Tyson Gay's opportunity to rise to no. 1. Remember also that Gay has battled injury problems the last two years, and persevered.
Write this off as Bolt's lack of preparation, and not taking care of the little things.

The reason given by Bolt's handlers for sitting the rest of year was a symptom, and not an injury. I'm asking for an injury, not the symptom 7-sided. There are hundreds of reasons why someone's back can hurt or get tight. A lot of them are not serious and are easily corrected. A lot of them are serious and require rest/rehab/surgery/treatment to correct. Some can never be corrected. As the face of track and field "my back is tight, my knee hurts, my ankle is stiff" isn't a reason not to continue to compete. Hell, what if Peyton Manning stopped playing for the season because he had "back stiffness" how would he be treated? That's all I'm saying.

Don't give me the symptom, give me the actual problem.
It seems like you are more concerned that bolt will ruin his image more than anything. I doubt he really has a problem with that if he knows he can come back in the important years and gain basically any lost fans back very quickly.
I don't think he signed a contract where he is obligated to tell everything that is wrong with him or give full reasons why he misses races, but im pretty sure, unless it was something serious, he wouldn't just take a "vacation" from his full time job.

Disapointed?!! They guy has given us THE greatest performances in the history of Track and maybe sports. He gets injured in an off year and your disapointed??!! The glass is way past half full, and he will be back...hopefully!

If he never ran again he would still be a blessing to be cherished. 9.58/19.19

That being said, it seems some of the problems have reoccurred, so I dont think him pulling out for the remainder of the season makes him look soft. It is a wise move on his part because there were several years when as a junior he suffered many hamstring problems that many thought would have ended his career.

He is now ensuring that he will be able to get treated and compete next season and continue to run fast.
Excellent point about scoliosis and another reason will most likely never see a 9.58 100m from Bolt again

Re: Bolt Season Finished With Back Problems

I would do exactly what Bolt has in his shoes. As far as loyalty to the fans goes, he has already given us an entertaining season, with races against the other principals, a near-WR (at 300) and fast times. Why should he risk a serious injury ? The loss to Gay opens the door a crack for his rivals for next season. He doesn't owe the fans anything more.
