And no sign of a GPS device here in their long run through the bush:

Would I be correct to assume that the intervals were done at the stadium in Marrakesh that will host the IAAF World Youth Champs in 2005?

Interesting how he has pacemakers/rabbits even for his workouts.

The rabbiting of workouts is nothing new. Morceli was utilizing rabbits in workouts more than a decade ago. It makes sense, though. Unless he decides to train with some of the young Kenyans (highly unlikely), the guy isn't going to have any company in workouts.

Ron Clarke used rabbits in practice in the 60s.

"There are two athlete dining rooms at the Institute of Track & Field. This list is posted on the door of the elite restaurant, where stars who have achieved certain performance standards sit at reserved tables and are served by wait staff. The list identifies which athletes may eat therein."

                    Too funny.

20x300 in 43-45 with 45 sec. recovery, doesn't seem like much for a guy like El G. - even at 5000 feet. It sounds like a solid workout for his partners (3:35/13:15 type stuff).

Of course, its very early and this is simply a stregth building session with emphasis on NOT overdoing it so early. The real "let get serious" work is probably still a month or or two away.

But its interesting to note that he goes out and runs controlled - but not too hard. Even intervals need not be designed for the sole purpose of "maxing out", but instead for tempo and strength.

This whole thread is cute. You've all discovered that world class athletes work-out together and their off-season sessions seem ordinary? Heck they even wear sweats and eat dinner. Very cute.

Even amateur photographers take the red-eye out before displaying their photos. I'll send the twenty lousy bucks for the software, Garry.

I don't see the word "sweats" anywhere in this thread. You've been reading letsrun.com too much:

<<The coolest thing about those pictures is that he looks just like any of us... bundled up in sweats with gloves and a hat, running his intervals and training runs with his teammates.>>

                            Malmo-

No need to be sarcasticly arrogant.

Athletes often don't realize that they don't need to grind out every training session - "like Pre". They also don't understand the need for interval sessions in a base phase. But, that intervals of this type are done differently, and for a different purpose than intervals done closer to the competitive phase. Even El. G. trains "with" -not "against" partners - no need to race workouts. The time will come for fast sessions.

And, for the purpose of this site I couldn't care much less about the red eye. The pictures are great!

                              Excellent pictures.

Malmo: what is your problem? Why is it that all of your posts on every thread are rude and sarcastic?

There is a fine line between being opinionated and being an asshole.
