  • Question about false starts

I was watching this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoleuM1hIDQ and saw that Bailey supposedly false started. Im sorry if i dont really understand the false start rules but how was that a false start. What is wrong with starting exactly when the gun shoots? I always thought a false start was when someone started to run before that gun was shot, not right when the gun was shot. Can someone please explain this to me?

That would mean the athlete anticipated the gun. If anyone that reacts to the gun by faster than 0.1 seconds then they are called back for a false start.

Interesting web site here, http://condellpark.com/kd/reactiontime.htm and i can recall other discussions on this forum in the past too. So it might be worth search the archive for older threads (such as this one).

You want to see who is fastest, not who is luckiest in anticipating the gun.
