    Re: Usain Bolt - 19.93!!!

At 6'4, 165, I fear for how much hard training his body can take. On the other hand, we've had some pretty skinny phenoms before who did all right. Calvin Smith at 5'10, 140 was that way. Dwayne Evans, 6'1, 150. I can't recall anyone that tall, that light - not sure what Tommie was.

sigh. I remember in2001 I was still taller than the boy. By 2002 he was already 6'2". Haven't seen him up close since thenbut but wager that he's 6'5" now. I also would wager that he's a little wore than 165 now. His upper body is a little bigger than last year. They are taking their time with him. Would love to see him and Gatlin and Patton over 200 next month.

        Incredible!
I hope that he stays healthy, because if he is running fast times right now, imagine what he could do in the Olympics.
Our sport need these kind of performer.

Does Bolt turn 18 this year? I can't see him losing unless he just panics because of stage fright. Anyway I don't think Kenteris defends the title. He just too ordinary of a champion to do what only legends have done. Also this has never been done in 200 history as far as I know.

Yes, Bolt's manager is Peart. Coach is Coleman

For the record, Barnett did not discover Bolt. He was discovered by Devere Nugent (now a pastor) while at primary school. His first coach was Pablo McNiel, Jamaican Olympian in '64 and '68.

I am excited for the guy no matter what. He PRd, dipped under 20,00 for the first time, and has more in sight. Gatlins 19,86w is the only other junior sub-20 in history.

I know that the world of sprinting is tentative at best e.g. guys come and go, people get injured etc.
                    but man it looks bright!

                    Bolt (19.93)
                    Gatlin (9.97, 20.04)
Darrel Brown (Trinidad & Tobago) (10.01)

                        Re: Usain Bolt - 19.93!!!

17 year old Usain Bolt could run 19.79 over 200 meters by early summer.

Mid last year when I posted that Bolt could run 19.99 seconds (sub 20.00 seconds) by late summer almost everyone thought that I was crazy. In fact Bolt did not do that. I still maintain that he could have. I expected Bolt to have done that at the world championship even though i did not explicitly say where(anticipating some form of Competition). He did not run at the world championship and hence that is history. Now that he has done it. I am now saying that he could run 19.79 seconds (sub 19.80 seconds) by early summer.

This prediction comes against the following background:

                        (1) He could actually do this right now (does he want to? No.). When he ran 19.93 he was not fully pressed. His nearest rival was 12-13 meters behind.

                        (2) It is early season Bolt has just started some form of speed work about two weeks ago.

                        (3) Closer to the Olympics he will run with a couple of guys who will try to press him.
and he will also want to get comfortable running these fast times for his body frame and will be doing a lot more speed work.

                        (4) Bolt is a leader not a follower. He will set the tone for how 200 meters is run going forward.

                        (5) Bolt shock the world at 15 running 20.6 (not pressed). At 16 running 20.13 (not pressed) and now again 19.93(not pressed and just starting some form of speed work).

But hear this. You might also think that I am crazy in saying that Usain Lightning Bolt could run Sub 44.25 for the 400 meters by early summer (a Different tread).

                              >Gosh, "he didn't beat anyone of note".... but he beat everyone in the field
                              >by more than a second!!! That either indicates that he is a front runner who
                              >might fold under pressure, or that he might be able to run really scary times
                              >with someone near him. Any guesses as to which might be the case?

He did not beat any one of note? The clock is the important thing. The flip side is if there was anyone of note the time would beat that person of note.
