  • 4X400m: USA versus JAMAICA...

I am very impatient to watch the 4X400m Men
    relay Final in Athens OG.
Especially the last leg which is going to be
    very, very hot...
    For a Jamaican miracle?

You think it will take a 'miracle' for Jamaica to win? I would think the USA can ALWAYS be considered the favorite, due to our seemingly inexhaustable supply of fresh new talent, but we don't have a lock on it.

That is true. The last thing you guys want is a team with t-shirts stating: We kicked their butts, too! (i.e.: the British!) I trust and hope the final will be exciting!

forget Athens— what about the Jamaica vs. U.S. at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia?

Penn may or may not be a fantastic race... entertaining, but hopefully the best will be unveiled in Athens. USA vs the world in April is a little much IMHO.

There is so much that can go wrong in a 4x100, there are such little margins for error. No such thing as a slam dunk, ever. SO whenever I watch a 4x100 at any level, I just hold my breath and enjoy it. OG should be hot one, I can't wait, and not just between US and Jamaica either.
As said, so, so many times, speed is great, but PASSES are greater.

IMHO it is cool to see so many nations improving each year -- bettering their national standards with each new championship season. NCAA coaching has a great deal to do with their progress, and for that, I appreciate the international presence on the collegiate level.

Nothing wrong with entertainment, EPelle. If you've never seen the USA vs. the World races, you've missed something. On a nice day there could be 50,000 people there--at least 10,000 of them loudly cheering for Jamaica. They certainly won't run as fast as they will in Athens, but if the race is close, the excitement will not be matched at the Olympic Games unless the Greeks unexpectedly come up with a medal level 4x400 team, which is not very likely.

Penn Relays is a meet I have never attended. I am ashamed!

Just imagine the new Jamaican fatal weapon-
I mean Usain BOLT- running the last leg, five
meters behind the best US quarter-miler...
                    What can you see?...

For some reason, track people here feel this is our best chance to get the gold in the men's 4x4 for some time. The USA team is thought of as not as strong as it usual while it is felt that the Jamaican team is as strng as it has ever been, if not stronger. Personally I think we had our best chance when MJ didn't run in Atlanta, but that somersault by Gregory Haughton ruined any slim chance of getting the gold. I think there might also be a 4x4 at the meet here next month. I expect that all members of the Jamaican 4x4 will have run sub 45 in this year. That has never happened before except I believe in 1996.
why don't people pronounce vowels anymore

I have been 4 or 5 times and am excited to be going this year. I am continually impressed with the organization. They could give lessons on how to run an efficient meet.

I made it out to Drake twice... very impressed with Mid-west fanfare.

That's OK, Steve. In Budapest, we proved that we can screw up a pass even in the 4x400.
