The adidas Oregon Classic will be shown live today on ESPN fron 5-6pm(EDT). It's 41-degrees right now, and it's not expected to get above 55. Oh, and there's also going to be some rain.

M1500-Lagat is also asking for a very fast pace. Good field--Ngeny, Lelei, Rotich, Lassiter, Sullivan, Hood. Villanova's Ryan Hayden is also in.

I don't think the coverage was that bad ... a reasonable number of events for a live hour. I'd give it a 'B.' And indeed, Krumm and Lagat looked good in what was kinda lackluster competition (esp. the shot). Sullivan also looked good in almost catching Lagat.

Krummennacker did look in control all throughout, even with 150m to go, waiting for the inside to open up. Clearly, he had an other gear.

Interesting cooments for him too, having some relevance to Webb.

Speaking of his 4 post college year development and his emergence under Oliveira.

It'll be a lot of fun seeing him the next two years, and where he'll fit in the 800/1500 scene.

The relevance to Webb is maturation and focusing on their strength, their basic speed.

I agree Sullivan looked good closing from a long ways out, lloks like definite finals material in Paris.

Mo looked sluggish, mix in the early season 1st event with coolish weather, so it's hard to get a total read on him.

Clearly, not at his top, and a healthy Gaitlen or Montgomery would be my early season bets. But late August is 3 months away. Lot of time for everyone.

Nice early season meet, I have no real complaints.

Just be happy it was on TV.

Not sure there's ever been a sprinter who liked cold weather (except Allan Wells perhaps?), but Mo definitely seems to be more adversely affected by it than ohter sprinters. See his record at English sites as an example.

even for oregon it was bad weather, but with the northwest it is never safe, even in late june in the usatf meet two years ago the weather was awful. if i recall it was had been bad in europe in the summer and who knows how it will be in late august in paris.

I saw Mo at Mt. Sac and thought he looked good there, not only his 20.16 but also the last leg of the 4x100 where he made up a lot of lost ground. Plus I heard him telling someone he'd been sick all week. I don't think his head was in it yesterday probably because of the weather. GH is right, when he runs in freezing windy places like Gateshead he normally runs about 10.3. If you've ever been to Edinburgh in the winter you'll know why Wells could run in the cold!

I always get frustrated by the TV coverage of the field events. Yesterday, for example, in the shot. The spectacle of the throws and jumps is in how far/long/high world class athletes can achieve. Who choses the bloody camera angles? Watching a 300lb bloke spinning in the circle is plain boring...shows nothing of how impressive it is to throw a 16lb shot 70'. Same as showing the long and triple head-on. It creates no excitement for anyone, even hard core fans like me. When you see a side shot you can tell how far they're jumping ...even a general sports fan watching can get a sense of awe seeing 28' & 58' jumps. Why doesn't Dwight, who I respect for his knowledge, tell the presumably ignorant TV producers about the best angles?

Walt > thanks for the heads up. Any explanation as to why there is an interview with virtually every winner in a televised track meet? These people have nothing to say in the first place and precious time is a wastin'.

in a LIVE t&F telecast, the down time between events gets filled by the brief interviews and commercials...

on the whole, nothing earth shattering comes out of those interviews, but at least you get to hear a few words of wisdom from the winner...

I've never bought this argument. Live coverage of golf tournaments give you constant action, both live and recently taped. They give you updates that let you know the meaning of every single shot.

Track meets could show you meaningful coverage of field events or previously completed races instead of talking heads. They've done this fairly well with the vault recently, with one exception: why don't they show you the chart? (I kept the chart when I went to the last Worlds, and everyone around me in the stands was glad I did.) The bottom line is that either the meet management or television producers simply haven't tried to pack more action into the telecast.
