  • Crouser Hits 73-1 [then 63-11 HSR]

in Boise - supplanting Vena as top dawg!!

    http://rise.espn.go.com/track-and-xc/no ... TrackAndXC

He surpassed 71-5 on five throws and his father said, “He really didn’t get anything real big ( ), but it was nice and consistent.”

    Yeah . . . nice.

So, let's see if Mr. Vena has an answer to that. SP looks to be the event to watch in HS this year.

I think he has a legit shot (pun!) at Brent Noon's 21-year-old indoor record, 74-11.
I don't think Vena has that in him now. 73' maybe.

And it was over 40 years ago that Jesse Stuart hit 71-11 indoors!

And that was with the glide, (as it should be), not the silly spin.

Yeah, like that silly flop thing in the HJ, when we all know the Western Roll is the only true style. And bamboo poles and hurdles that fall over when you hit them!

But isn't Boise at altitude? :P

Rarified air makes the shot go farther. Thats why I always polished mine to reduce drag.

Also Boise is known as the low gravity center of the world. Get your shot weighed in Caldwell before you compete in Boise. Very few are aware of this little fact.

                  Re: Crouser Hits 73-1

Tehre are those "purists" who at the time lambasted us for accepting Noon's mark as a national record because it was made so far "out of season."

There is no doubt that a lot of indoor records (in all categories) are somewhat soft simply becuase the majority of the competiiton comes at a time of year when it's rare for somebody to be in true peak form.

I like his rate of improvement.

I am surprised he is going to Texas. I thought his family had a tradition of going to Oregon.

His father (Mitch) went to Idaho.
