  • IAAF rule change

Forgive me if this was posted somewhere else, but I couldn't find it....

Apparently, the IAAF will be changing the number of rounds that 'elite' athletes run at major champs, starting with this year's World Champs.

    http://www.rjrnewsonline.com/sports/ath ... ule-change

'There have been mixed reactions to news of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF's) rule change that will see elite athletes running only three rounds in the 100 and 200 metres at the World Athletics Championship this summer and the 2012 London Olympic Games. It is also noteworthy that athletes, who have not attained the "A" or "B" qualifying standard, will be allowed to compete in a "preliminary" round prior to the three main rounds.'
My heart is still in the Caribbean....

    Re: IAAF rule change

I understand that this may have come to accomodate the better sprinters so that they're going to have to run one less round leading up to the final, saving more energy, but could that mean tougher races on the way? How many among the entrants at a World champs or Olympics don't hold even the B standard?
