  • Boston Marathon Changing Qualifying and Registration

For 2012 they are changing registration so that the fastest of the age groups gets in first. So on day one, which will be Sept 12, 2011, if you're faster than 20min than your qualifying time you can register, then day three it's 10min, and day five it's 5 min. Then after 7 days all qualifiers. This happens until the race is full.

For 2013 the same registration happens but they will lower qualifying times by 5min across all age groups.

I like this new system, although I would have been kicked out of this year's race if the new qualifying time had been in place.

This will give me a new goal to qualify for the new BQ standard, whether I want to actually enter the race again or not.
