    Re: 800 race strategies

I am going to throw a monkey wrench in this formula: I was a distance guy who had decent (49,6) 400m speed in high school, and average speed in college. I negative split both my high school and college person-best races, and was never able to successfully pull off a 4- , 5-second slower-than-400m PB first lap race. My 800m lifetime PR was run 59,6-51,5 (1.51,11) and felt like a 4x400m when I came back on the field the 2nd lap. I ran most of my 1,500m races faster on the 1st lap than I did my 800m person-best races.

      those are interesting splits

using an ideal 2s difference between splits, i get that you should have been capable of

      55.4 / 53.4 for a 1'48.8 ultimately based on your data

That is encouraging to know. My 1,500m PR far exceeds my 800m PR on the points table, but I have never been able to get my 8 time under 1.51. I have been able to close slow-paced 1,500m races within 4-6 seconds of my 800m PR.

That's because human beings don't fit into mathematical models too well. All this projection stuff is just voodoo bullshit.
