It is not an assumption, but fact (pending approval), complete with the requisite ' after her name -- also, the mark was set at Mt. SAC, not Modesto.

T&FN restricts Collegiate Records to marks made through the NCAA Championships. Branta mark came after that, and is appended as an "out of season record" at the end.

    Womens Div.1 5k record question

I've seen the 5k collegiate rec. listed as both the 15:23 by the Ducks' Kathy Hays and 15:07.56 by UWis. Kathy Branta {in the Nebraska T&F yearbook} who got it in Helsinki'85. Which is the legit record?
If it's Kathy, then her rec. was beten by both Smith and Flanagan in 15:09 at Modesto last weekend, with Smith getting the rec. because Shalene is red-shirting.

T&F news lists Hays as having the record, set in 5/4/85.
