  • Tickets to Super Grand Prix Meets

I'm probably going to be in Czech Republic at the time of the Ostrava SuperGP meet. Does anyone know how to get tickets? I looked at the meet website, but couldn't figure it out there.

Do you think infants under 2yrs need their own ticket?

    Thanks

Give me the website here and I'll look it up for you in Czech. I could not find it.

I went through it (including the PDF's 72 pages) and found no information regarding the ticket purchase. You might want to e-mail the meeting's director or manager (under "contact"). As far as your baby is concerned, I am pretty sure they will nor want a separate ticket. Have fun.

My experience with meets of this size is that you can generally buy tickets at the stadium the day of the meet. It helps, of course, if the meeting has a website with a contact email address so you can ask questions ahead of time.

Alfons Juck, the meet manager at Ostrava, asked my to post this on his behalf --

                Dear Friend,
I would be happy to have tickets for you ready at the time you come to Ostrava. Just tell me the number. We are also planning to have on our website in english soon ticket information.
                Thanks for the interest.

Very few meets sell out. Ostrava did last year, I believe. Brussels and Zurich are others. Stockholm has been for the past few years as well and definitely will be this Olympic year with so many Swedish stars. Bislett no longer a sell out, but no idea of how the meet will sell in Bergen this year.

Don't know if it's the Swiss culture or a measure of just how dear the tickets are, but in my experience, at Zürich you can't even find anybody trying to scalp seats outside the stadium.

Gary, I'm guessing T&FN might have access to media creditials for Zurich and not have to worry about tickets, but would you have any insight on the ease of getting regular seating tickets?

From their info page at http://www.weltklasse.ch/eng/inhalt.php ... ts/tickets it looks like the majority of tickets are standing spots. Are these really any good?

But for the super-expensive seated tickets, they are limiting the selling to 3 days on a first come, first serve basis (maximum of two per order). How easy is it to get decent seats and what is their availability? Thanks.

Re: Tickets to Super Grand Prix Meets

Sorry, have never tried to buy tickets as a regular dude in the street. As you surmised, usually a press credential, but also the T&FN tour operation gets a block every few years when we pass through town, but groups always get special treatment (even though the seats we get are always buried way on the backstretch).

The press and VIP sections eat up a significant portion of the seats from about 50m to the finish, so really primo seats aren't for sale period. Poster Mike Renfro talked earlier about being in the standing section; hopefully he can enlighten you on that score. If you're at the South end of the stadium you basically adopt the PV as your event and at the North end you adopt the HJ. It'll be a crowded 3-hour stand, but I suspect it's worth every minute.

Looking ahead to 2005, one of the hardest tickets to find might be that for Bislett, with the opening of the new stadium. Meet will be the Friday before WC opens in Helsinki. What a great vacation! Combine a trip to the fjords w/ Oslo, then drive over to Stockholm, spend a couple of days in that incredible city, then take the overnight ferry (a boat on which sleeping is frowned upon--discos run all night) to Helsinki for the Worlds.

Sounds great! Gee, you wouldn't by chance know of any magazine that might be organizing a tour that would include all of that, would you? :-)

Lol! The name of the magazine escapes me...

but I know of a web-site who will arrange such a trip:
