  • Penn: half an hour behind schedule......

.....but I ain't mad at 'em. Still a good meet and a georgeous Saturday. Probably did it for NBC Live.

    1) USA v World 4x4: I thought Sanchez would pull off the upset win over the US, but USA correctly changed the order, putting Washington, a more experienced anchor, 4th and Jerome Young 3rd.

    2) Congrats to high schools Winslow Township (4x4) and Archbishop Carrol (4x8) on great anchor legs and upset wins! Also, to Glenville, OH in the 4x1. They've been comming to Penn for a minute, now, and have finally broke out!

A half hour behind schedule at the Penn Relays? What the hell is that about? What do you mean you're not mad at them? THE PENN RELAYS ARE ALWAYS ON TIME.

That is another sure sign that the apocalypse is near.

How good was Glenville? Or perhaps the better question is, "how bad was Drake?" They would have won the Drake Relays (university division that is) by almost 2tenths of a second. 41.29, 41.34 and 41.49 were the first three places? Ugh.

Uh, actually they're usually AHEAD of schedule. They were 20 minutes up at one point the last time I was there--they had to slow the meet down to let the schedule catch up! When you give the high school boys five minutes to run the 4x4 relay and it takes them only 4 minutes per race from gun to gun, that's how they get ahead.

The entries grow every year and they try to cram more heats into the same available time. Something has to give. This year, most of the High School Boys 4x400's were scheduled 4 minutes apart. Even Penn cannot pull that off.
