I'm not the kind of guy that likes to say "I told you so," but . . .

I just noticed the amazing (if mediocre by his standards) consistency of Idowu's London marks. The Standard Deviation is only 8 cms and after the first jump less than 2cm; the coefficients of variation were less than 0.5% and 0.1% (last four).

    17.07 (+0.8)
    16.91 (+0.9)
    xxxx (+0.5)
    16.88 (-0.1)
    16.87 (0.0)
    16.89 (+1.0)

Li-Ning signing an athlete out of college (and early at that) is unprecedented, if indeed it is true. One would have to think that Taylor's range in events played a role in their interest in him, so hopefully there is some kind of an agreement where he will continue to pursue other events.

I don't think Cuba will get a medal in the men's triple.Copello is the most consistent of those on the circuit but the 19 year old Ernesto Reve might have as good a chance of making the final cut as Giralt or Betanzos.Taylor looks like the man to beat right now.

Well, 17.8 as a college junior while splitting his time across three events would indicate that he might not be done here and there is not too much room between 17.8 and the magical 18, so he would have to be46/47 in the hurdles to match, and I am not sure he is that fast.

    1 Christian Taylor JR Florida 17.80m 58-4 ¾ +2.3 10
    17.28m w: +2.0 (1) 56-8 ½
    16.76m w: +2.1 (1) 55-0
    16.90m w: +0.6 (2) 55-5 ½
    17.40m w: +2.0 (2) 57-1
    17.16m w: +1.7(2) 56-3 ¾
    17.80m w: +2.3(1) 58-4 ¾

Another implication is that he certainly performed best on the big stage - the stage is bigger but he might just be ready for even that increment in venue.
He also competed in the 4x100 and 4x400 that same day. I'm still trying to figure out his best event, probably the 400H and no I don't think he's ever run them.

Copello inconsistent? He's appeared in the Diamond League five times this year and his worst result is 3rd with 17.05...
Are you going to pick him  ?
Probably not, but that's because I haven't seen enough upside, not because of consistency problems. I'm expecting 17.3x from him... good enough for 3rd to 5th.

Copello will have a say in it also, methinks.

Idowu says he is a pro and talks the talk; shame that he states in public "I dont care " about his performance or lack of the same ; lots of people paid good money to see him and nobody would have lost sleep if he had not competed and announced the same at the appropriate time; the previous meet the National Trials he said he wasnt there cos he would win and would perform instead at the CP.Some performance.!

Tosin Oke must be laughing to beat the great Idowu.

Should n't treat the public with such contempt. I will not buy the usual crap about he knows what's best for him with 3 weeks to go; plenty of world class athletes turned up and performed. PI is just reverting to what he has been in the past. Self regarding thoughtlessness and fatheaded arrogance.Hope his sponsors were forgiving

I will laugh heartily if Taylor whups him in Daegu.
