      He may be youngest to clear 18'/5.50, but the age 17 record is 18'4 1/2 5.60 by Maxim Tarasov. Correct? (These age records are important - they're true 'WRs', whether gradeschoolers or 90+ oldfarts.)

        I believe it's a world youth record, not a world age 17 best. Youths turn 17 in the year of competition, ie a youth in 2004 has to be born 1987 or later.

        Tarasov was unlucky to be born December 2nd, so although he was 17 when he cleared 5.60 (at the WJC in 1988), he turned 18 that year so he wasn't a youth. He set the WJR at 5.80 at age 18 in 1989.
