  • WORLD ATHLETICS FINAL

Haven't heard anything about it. Will there be any World Ahletics Finals this year?

    Re: WORLD ATHLETICS FINAL

They weren't held this year or last year.

The World Athletics Finals were a bit of an anti-climax and recent editions were missing so many top names especially in the sprints but I sort of miss them. I just think the season ends with a bit of a thud. I'd rather have some sort of end-of-season two-day meeting where the Diamond League winners are decided instead of splitting it between Brussels and Zurich.

Well the last one i can remember brought out a bit of stir, especially with a certain UB running 19.68 in the 200m. So, is it officially scrapped by the IAAF or what? Haven't herad nothing officially on it.

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IAAF_World_Athletics_Final

"The IAAF World Athletics Final was an annual track and field competition organised by the International Association of Athletics Federations. It was inaugurated in 2003 to replace the IAAF Grand Prix Final. The competition was part of the IAAF World Athletics Series and was the culmination of the World Athletics Tour each year. Due to changes in the one-day meeting system introduced by the IAAF, the World Athletics Final was discontinued after the 2009 season."

Bottom line is that the two DL Finals are the World Athletics Final, just as the WAF was merely a recasting of the GP Final that preceded it.

Slightly different name and format, but as we've have since the mid '80s, an IAAF-structured end-of-season meet that results in a payday for the athletes.

So would I . . . which was the WAF, of course. Is there no way of getting Zurich and Brussels to buy into a collaboration that could do this?

Would it not enhance their product to be part of a big 'final' something? Could translate into higher ticket price$ and/or broadcasting right$?
