Bekele: 13.34,03 in Addis Ababa, says worth 12.50 at sea

    From Leichtathletik:

    Kenenisa Bekele in guter Form

Mai in Hengelo. Dort soll der Weltrekord attackiert werden.

    (Translated):

    Kenenisa Bekele in good form

World champion Kenenisa Bekele has proven at the end of the Ethiopian masteries in Addis Ababa his good form. He ran 5,000 meters in 13.34,03 minutes as a winner and said afterwards: "I could not give 100% due to the external conditions. Elsewhere I would probably have run a time about 12.50 minutes." Now he wants to step on it by his next start on the 31st May in Hengelo. There the world record should be attacked.

"worth 12:50 at sea" is simply not true. There are too many variables. He may be much more adapted to altitude, thereby 'gaining' less of a disadvantage.

I think Bekele is telling us that he is in 12.50 shape, regardless. He knows where his training is at, and if he has made some mathematical error in altitude-to-sea-level conversions, so be it.

we will see on may 31 at hengelo what kind of shape he is in as he is scheduled to run a 5k there, then on june 7th he is scheduled to run a 10k, my guess is he will run close to the world records, if not breaking them, watch his teammate sihene as well.
