  • Athens track test event

A track and partially field test event (official meeting) will take place in the Athens Olympic Stadium on May 22nd. All types of events will be tested with the exception of the throws. Only shot put will be held since the field is not ready for discus etc… (From the Greek federarion)

How will they test for the heat and smog? Can't imagine how runners will handle Beijing for the same reasons.

As slow as Athens has been in preparing for this event, I have rampant thoughts that a lot of issues could crop up during the Olympics that people aren't expecting.

Were the contractors' employees all extensively screened to ensure that no one could plant a bomb, or otherwise enable penetration of secure areas? Will athletes arrive at the dorms only to find cold or hot water running from the plumbing? Will people experience allergic reactions to new materials outgassing due to lack of control over the possible use of solvents or other irritants in the finishing materials? Will the air conditioning systems be balanced so that some rooms won't be freezing cold while others are roasting hot?

That's just the tip of the iceberg.
