  • Question re: HS M & 2M lists

On the high school lists, I see that mile and two-mile times are properly listed as such, in keeping with T&FN's stated policy to deny the existence of the 1600 and 3200 and convert all marks at those faux distances.

However, the girls list still says 1600 and 3200. So, are those actually 16 and 32 times listed, or are they M and 2M times and you just forgot to change the name of the lists?

And if they really are 16 and 32 times, why do you do the boys one way and the girls another?

Plus, is there one conversion chart statisticians can utilize when converting the 1,600m/mile and 3,200m/2-mile? Some charts use +1,46s for the 1,600m conversion, others use +1,8s for the same conversion.

It's a multiplier - I don't have my LGB here, but believe it's .9942 to get from Miles to Metrics.

Track & Field News' Big Green Book (which you can buy at the e-store link on this page) has 1500-1600-Mile and 3000-3200-Two Miles conversion charts, I believe in half-second increments.

Re: Question re: HS M & 2M lists

Thanks for the replies. I have been used to converting the 1,500m-to-1-mile by:

          accumulated seconds x 1,08, + 1,46

          Ex:

          3.40 1,500m = 220 x(1,08)= 237,6 (1,600m of 3.57,6) + 1,46 = 3.59,1. I am interested in seeing the trackandfield conversion charts.

Argh! The girls' lists as originally posted were indeed 1600 and 3200 times; a fix is being posted shortly.

Conversion factors used by T&FN (and the BGB):

1500 to mile (and 3000 to 2M)... multiply by 1.08

1500 to 1600 (and 3000 to 3200) (and whythefrell anybody would want to do that conversion is beyond us, but we aim to please).... multiply by 1.0737

1600 to mile (and 3200 to 2M).... multiply by 1.0058

To go the other way, simply divide by the same number instead of multiplying.
