      Re: Rio GP Results

Open the Chron this morning, and lo, a 65-6 TJ from a Brazilian with whom I wasn't familiar. Turns out to be 17.22, not horrible, but not a huge WR either. I suspected as much, as there usually is at least a mention in prose somewhere in the paper.

You'd never heard of Jadel Gregorio?! He was 5th in Paris WCh and 2nd in Budapest WICh (with a 17.43m jump... just short of the indoor best of 17.46m he had set just a few weeks before).

He's still quite young (born in 1980) but is a REAL powerhouse (6'6" and 215 lbs). He could do great things this year (if he sorts out his ragged technique).

Neither Ben nor I have any recollection of pulling any posts from this thread. Send me an e with what it was and I'll confirm for you one way or the other.

Mike...check your stats...that 65-6 would be WR in your units, but the 17,22 not in the record books in our metric measurements here.

I'm pretty sure it was this thread... I made a little comment about cutting-and-pasting results from other sources without reformatting, and it's no longer here.

The comment is still valid, though.

I agree with you though. Seanwj can be a bit funny about things like that! ;-)

Sean is in charge of the IAAF's website. The GP results we have posted are e-mailed directly to us by the media department. And why do they e-mail them to us (and other legitimate news outlets)? BECAUSE THEY WANT THEM PUBLISHED. That's one reason they even exist; to ensure that the IAAF programs get promoted. That's how newspapers around the world get the results to print.

                            Re: Rio GP Results

There's a difference between publishing them in the press and cutting/pasting them wholesale on an internet board. If they can be found elsewhere on the net (which they can, on the IAAF website), it's basic netiquette to give a link rather than cut and paste.
