Koech is one of the greats in this event -- he now has 9 @ sub-8:00. Only Cherono/Shaheen has more (10). The others (e.g., Kiptanui, etc.) at the top of the a-t list have "only" 2 or 3 sub-8:00.

He has serious difficulties at Kenyan Champs every year despite winning in terrifying times through the year.

He needs to get the Trials moved to sea level, like the 10k.

Take it for what it's worth, but Paul Koech was the #1 trend worldwide on Twitter for a couple of minutes after this race. So there still seems to be a broader interest in the sport besides Usain Bolt if something captivating happens.

Cheruiyot has really got Defar's number now, it appears.
T Dibaba is supposed to go in Eugene 10K tonight. Per AI, she's entered in 5K New York, too.
                      Cheers,

Only 7th at today's Kenyan Olympic Trials in Nairobi (8.36.29, way back from the top).
