Can't wait for London because the pace is going to be fast and there isn't going to be any jogging the first couple of laps. I hope the US gals are prepared for this - doubt it though.

And Hilary's 4:05.08 PR after all these years. It seems like ages ago that Hilary Edmondson was racing for Wisconsin.

REMEMBER REMEMBER. there are no rabbits in the olympics and there are three rounds to boot so it will be another tactical race in the final, even though i dont think it will be another 4.05 plus like last year.

Vastly unlikely that the OG will be run in any manner similar to the paced race last night, outstanding though Aregawi's performance was.
A quick look through the All- time 1500m this century suggests that apart from Jamal all the faster performances than last night's 1500m were by athletes subsequently banned for drugs, e.g. Russsians, a Turkish cheat. Ayan .

Did anybody SEE this race? What happened to Genzebe? She was in the lead at 1200 in 3:11+, then ran about 49 for last 300, with Aregawi under 45. The pacing was excellent, BTW.

                        Alan:
You can watch the race at this link.

Aregawi went by Dibaba shortly after 1200, then blew the race wide open in the last 200. Obiri and Dibaba entered the homestretch together.

Genzebe Dibaba was the hot favourite for the OGs right up until that race!

I watched the race (thanks to DecFan). Genzebe was right with the pacemaker at 800, with Aregawi a bit back and more back to Obiri. It looked like Genzebe was going for a fast time, although she did slow down the 3rd lap. Aregawi passed her about halfway down the backstretch and ran sub-30 the last 200.

I'm probably reading too much into this, but I got the impression Genzebe was over-confident,like it was more-or-less of a time trial, since she had little trouble with Aregawi in Shanghai. Perhaps it's a good lesson.
                              Cheers,
