Is Wheating planning to move up to the 1500m...?
If he is, he should change his plan and move back down to the 800m....

Yeah and Lopez Lomong and Bernard Lagat should be in the 5,000m. Nice Pr by David Torrance...but he might be better at 5,000m also. OT will be interesting to watch!

Not only was the pacing poor (59+ and ~60) for laps 2 and 3 after 54-something, but the second pacemaker, instead of moving out or into the infield, just fell back through the pack, impeding several runners. Contrast this to the excellent pacing in the 5K, when they ran 2:36 and change for each of the first three kilos, moved out and got out of the way.

Silas Kiplagat really did a fade job, didn't he, after defeating Kiprop and ducking under 3:30 in Doha.
          Cheers,

I thought there were too many runners in this race. They need to limit the size of the field. Kiprop's last lap was pretty impressive. It almost looked like he was toying with the field and just cranked it into another gear when he decided it was time to win.

Perhaps Lagat and some others at this meet stepped down in distance from what they'll run at the Trials. There's no speedwork like racing.

Anyone know what happened to Haron Keitany ? I was trackside around 500m into the race when he pulled up, tore his shirt off and threw it to the ground with an expression of disgust (a la Bolt in Daegu). He didn't look injured, stalked off rather than limped, and I didn't catch what happened in the prior few seconds. His rage was such that he didn't bother to pick up his shirt, which landed in lane 1 and would have caused an obstruction on the next lap (an official did that). Can anyone shed some light ?

Can't tell from the NBC video. He begins to move up then you can see him glance behind himself. The next shot he's 10m off the back, slowing to a jog and then stops. Maybe he got stepped on?

right, to handicap you need keep an eye on this kind of thing.

this 349 looks like a typical sebastian coe record attempt, except that coe would draft poorly, while kiprop smartly got in some very good drafting for a good part of the race, he was boxed (while getting the good dreafting) at a bad time nearly 400m out, a super charged field will make you pay for that.

i.e. if someone can finish in 52 flat and kicks, while the boxed guy has to wait, then run wide, then go all out, and his 51x does not do the trick.....

without wind and an even pace the time is several seconds lower. handicap on that "fact"

It would make no sense for Torrence to choose 5000m, especially if Lomong does so. Lagat and Rupp are virtual locks for the Olympic team. So Lomong and Torrence would be competing with Teg, Ritz, and Bumbalough for the final spot.

Yes, 1500 also has seven A-qualifiers, even if you do not count Lagat and Rupp (who are not competing at the Trial). But none of them has looked impressive so far. It is wide open for all A-qualifiers.
