Any sort of overhead covering makes an event indoors, right?

It needs to be completely INSIDE - no opening the garage doors to let the wind in the back (ahem!!)

      Re: Definition of Indoors

Am I correct in thinking that under rules for the last 10 years or so, an official "outdoor" World Record can be set indoors, as long as the track/runways meet all acceptable "outdoor" standards ?

Not real practical for track, but for , say, the PV, LJ, 3J, HJ, or SP, is this indeed true ?

Finally, and I think I've queried about this before, why cannot Bubka's 20'2" be retroactivwely approved ? I do not believe it was a board runway or runway set atop boards.

Well, it would not meet current standards (pegs, bar, Volzing...).

WMA world indoors masters weight throw, was held in a giant tent in the outdoor carpark.

There were holes ( big holes where the snow fell through) in this tent, it was snowing outside, around -5C inside the tent, snow and ice had crept in around the edgesinside (3 feet wide 2 feet thick), the door, around 15 feet by 8 feet was opened and could not be closed, we threw outdoor implements, wearing 5 layers of clothing, and it was however an indoors event..

          find a tent big enough..

wasn't Doha or Quatar talking about a outdoor world champs, inside a giant air conditioned stadium
We all overtrain "Pat Casey to George Frenn"

Last time we had this discussion, what I heard was anything sheltered counted as an indoor mark. Show me something that says someone with an indoor facility cannot have the doors open.

It's in the IAAF Competition Rules:

                RULE 211
                The Indoor Stadium
The stadium shall be completely enclosed and covered.

OK I'll count these marks as outdoor marks then... I don't really care I just want some other statisticians to weigh in on the matter.
