  • shot put world record

Will Randy Barnes' outdoor record be broken anytime soon? Before he tested positive I though CJ Hunter could have done it. There is always a place in my heart for Godina but he isn't getting younger.

I think CC is on track - still a couple of years away.

Not a chance in the next decade or two IMHO. Look at the all-time Top 10. There's only one guy who I think may be clean, Adam Nelson, and his best was 2 years ago and is still 61cms (2 feet) shy of the WR. Freakin sad state of affairs. I looked at the womens list on the T&FN enews email (or whatever it is called) last week and just sat here shaking my head at the decline in performances (in the context of how ridiculous the all-time lists are).

I agree with mark. Hold your breath. And just look at Toth last year.... too good to be true.

According to world renowned strength guru, Charles Poliquin, Nelson should be good for breaking the world record before or during Athens. So far Nelson has hardly thrown this year but has reportedly added 20lbs of muscle and increased his strength tremendously. I really don't know what to make of that.

The shot put event, among the most magnificient
field events, is to my opinion the one that
symbolyses the "strongest (T&f) athlete in the
              World" the most.
CANTWELL seems to be built to reach the magical
23m00 limit one day or another.
Shot put is a very fascinating event that should
              deserve more attention.
When was the last T&FN cover showing a weight
              thrower?

                Re: shot put world record

2002 had 2 shot put covers. February with Godina and August with Nelson.

August last year had Tom Pappas throwing the javelin so that kinda counts.

                    Re: shot put world record

Myerscough and Cantwell were born to reach 23m. Forget drugs in Carls case. Though I said the same thing about Robberts and so far he still hasn't hit 22m yet.

you metric guys can talk of "23" all you want, but it will take 23.13 to break the WR.

That Myerscough was allowed to compete in NCAA competition even while serving a suspension from Great Britain is absolutely ridiculous.

Yeah and then he was allowed to compete at age 23 in the NCAAs, ludicrous!
