    Re: 2012OT m100—Gatlin.... or Gay?

That is such a toss up but I Gay hasn't shown all his cards...and after that 10.00 into a wind...tells me he is ready to go...dust the shelves...and Gatlin is def looking good...so as the women's 100 this will be a toss up.

      Will Gay actually run?

      That's the question....

That's what worries me. Will he make it through all the rounds and make the team? Will he run one round and then pull out like last year? Or will he just run through pain and fall to the track if he has to.

I do hope Dix is healthy though.

Yeah, two of the top 3 guys having injury issues; let's hope both are gonna be fine.

            Will Dix?
If everyone shows up good-to-go, it's
            Gay
            Dix
            Gatlin

alas, my Magic 8-ball says that's not to be.

Gay is a great runner but he can not go through all these rounds IMO. I loved 2011 WC when slow runners ran heats to qualify for the next round. It gave them a bit of encouragement and feel good moment/s in sun. I suggest same thing for 2016 trail. Run all 10.20-10-30 runners in heats and then three more round to final. This can be done for all short distances.

I love track and I do not hear a word on ESPN about it. I am sure if Gay does not make it (God forbid) it will be news on ESPN. 2012 US team IMO is really weak if we lose two or three top runners this weekend. This could be lowest medal haul of all time (I bit my tongueand I hope I am wrong).

                Re: 2012OT m100—Gatlin.... or Gay?

Given the depth of talent here, it will be difficult for a runner nursing an injury to make it through the rounds. Any speculation what kind of performance it will take to make it through each round?

                10.1 to get to semis
10.0 to get to the finals
                9.88 to go to London?

If my numbers are reasonable, then I suspect Gay can get to the finals healthy enough to be in the top three. If it is much faster, then he may be too hurt to go. Any guesses on Dix?

the A standard is 10.18 though. There are 32 runners, and 4 of them accepted ran 10.21.

Also note that the 9.97 by Philippe Derosier was not accepted. I think the run was not valid.

Im looking for Calesio Newman as my stealth pick to shine here!

No, it will not take 9.88 (yes if it is 3.0 wind, but that is not the same). Also, Gay knows he has to be top three, not win, per se. He will run hard enough to qualify but you will not see him winning his heat by 0.2.

Do I understand correctly the USATF's rules ?
Here is a list from site.
The first 33 athletes will be in the OT, and the rest by cash desk?
                      The second question about sorting.
How will the sorting, with best qualifying result or by SB?

If I am correct about 10.0 to get to the finals, then Gatlin, Gay, and Dix are going to be pushed hard by the other 5 guys who can go sub 10 who would like to go to London. I agree that Gay won't want to go any faster than necessary, but with decent conditions, you may well have a bunch of guys running 9.9 or better. Gatlin has something to prove, Dix and Gay are trying to just make the team and the other 5 guys would like for one of those three to fail. it is going to be a fast race and I can see it taking sub 9.9 to make the 100 team.

[typos corrected, foolishness left in place]

10.09 didn't make the NCAA final. And 10.09 didn't make the final 4 years ago with the top 4 format.
So I can imagine this time around could be a tad faster.

Being that it is in Eugene, don't be surprised if there are some extra-ordinary times run in the heats with the wind gauge having the exact same reading for each heat. :P
