    And can you imagine if there were a dead heat for 3rd in the 5,000 or 10,000, and neither one will submit to a last-day runoff and neither one will submit to a coin flip?

      Moving forward: the tie-breaker should be the faster time in the semis. That might also have the salutary effect of stopping runners from easing through the tape. In events with no prelims, it would be the faster time during the OT qualifying period.
