This game is for for real fanatics only because I ask you to predict the first 5 athletes of each athletics event of the Olympic Games of London 2012. Email me to receive the excel form.
NB each athlete should be univocally identified in each event, if not I will consider the athlete placed in the worst position.

    1 Borlee
    correct prediction
    1 Borlee J.

    POINTS

    • 8 points for 2 place correctly predicted
    • 6 points for 3 place correctly predicted
    • 4 points for 4 place correctly predicted
    • 2 points for 5 place correctly predicted
for each athlete picked in a wrong position, you win:
    • picked for podium but he finishes in a different place on the podium, 3 points
    • picked for podium but he finishes 4 or 5, 1 point
    • picked for 4 but he finishes 5, 1 point
    • picked for 5 but he finishes 4, 1 point
    Extra points
    • bonus 1-2-3 correct order, 6 points

I'm all about 'Top 3 in order" contests, but 5 is too rich for my blood. I don't play unless I intend to WIN and the variables expand exponentially for 4th and 5th.

I agree the top 3 format works best. Lets get this thing done and have a contest. I would put this together if I had one ounce of computer smarts. But I just don't know how to put one of these contests together on the computer. Here are the rules of the abandoned medalist contest from the Netherlands:

            Rules of the game
            Assigning of points
The first physical medal presentation is binding.
If for some reason no medals are presented for an event, during the championships,
this event will be eliminated in this game.

            Table of points
Place 1 predicted correctly 4 points
Place 2 predicted correctly 3 points
Place 3 predicted correctly 2 points
Placing not predicted correctly 1 point
All 3 predicted in arbitrary order -> bonus 1 point
Summarized: The maximum for each event is 10 points

If an event ends in a tie
            1. More than 1 athlete finishing third. All these athletes earn 2 points.
For the bonus you have to predict the athletes finishing first and second as well,
completed with 1 of the athletes finishing third.
            2. More than 1 athlete finishing second. All these athletes earn 3 points.
For the bonus you have to predict the athlete finishing first,
completed with 2 of the athletes finishing on the second place.

            Drawing up the final result
            According to the next rules:
            1. Count who has the highest score.
            Finishing equal:
            2. Count who has the most highscores ('10' = everything predicted correctly for an event).
            Still finishing equal:
            3. Count who predicted the most first places correctly
            Still finishing equal:
            4. Count who predicted the most second places correctly
No rights can be derived from the results calculated by the program delivered
            as part of this game.

All I have to say is . . . Bwaaaaawwwk, bwawk, bwawk!
I'll probably put in 8-10 hours on my top-3 form chart. To do that for 5-deep would take 20+ hours. Are you going to compensate me for the extra 10 hours? My fee is a reasonable $50/hr. I accept Visa and Mastercard.

I would do a top 3 but I would have to prepare it before this weekend. Otherwise I might be too busy once the games start.

                    TM71,
The Olympics come once every four years. Prepare your top three picks in each event. I know others who are dying to participate in a top 3 medalist contest. Lets get a contest going. I already started working on my top 3 picks for each event. I should be finished by the weekend. If we only have 10 or 12 people in the contest, then so be it. But the main thing is to get this ball rolling now.

I'll do a Top 3 (almost done with it anyway).

I do not have the depth of knowledge for a top-3 and the top-5 pushes me over the edge even more. However, if I can get enough time between now and then (I have a few constraints tha might make that difficult), I will participate even if that means that I have to fill out the bottom half of the distribution (in this contest, I suspect that the bottom half of the distribution is pretty honorable, not a black mark). Also, I appreciate how much work that such an endeavor entails, and that alone is worthy of both comment and commitment.
