What is pure foolishness is to think that Felix can only go low 49. Felix ran the 400 fast enough to win in 2010. She was stronger than all of the other 400 runners that year. Her lost in 2011 at WC was because she thought she could catch the winner in the last 100. She almost did and lost by 003.

The statisticians and historians are saying relays legs are normally .8/1 faster than the open. If you take her 2012 relay leg that puts her at 49/49.2. She ran a 48.2 relay leg after three 100s, three 200s, and one 4x100. So I think it is a safe bet that if Felix ran the 400 like she is suppose to (relying first upon her speed and then on her endurance, and not just her endurance; in other words, run it like she does the relay legs), she could break 49. I do not think that is fantasy at all!

I literally just woke up from a dream in which Felix ran a 21.44 with Jeter second in 21.50!! The wind was 1.5. lol (this is crazy) I heard Ato commentating and everything. There was even a replay LMAO..... All that to say. I hope Felix can do some more damage in the 2 before she even thinks about even considering the open 4. I'm even hoping she can improve her 100m PR as well(I think she still has untapped potential in this event)..... A low 48low/mid doesnt seem out of her range of ability if she were to focus on it in the future. But as Tuariki said, she may very well exceed that

Are you saying that if Allyson completely dropped the 200 and switched to Clyde Hart she could run 47.xx?

Jeter may not like it but this probably spooks the hell out of potential sponsors. I have a hunch that Felix had this in mind when she made her cryptic comments during her Piers Morgan interview a couple of months ago.

MORGAN: How prevalent are drugs today in sprinting? Because there was a period when you just assumed that everybody was on it.

FELIX: Yes. Well, hopefully it's not as bad as it has been in the past, but to be honest, it's still around, you know, and --

Yes, and across 2002 to 2007 she improved about 0.33 or so, not very fast -- if you take a year when she was not training full time and had races on very secondary tracks and without serious coaching, you get a lot of differential -- and over half of the 0.84 seconds.

I didn't go to 2002. The first mark for Jeter was in 2005 - about the same as 2006.

My mistake. BTW, Jeter ran 11.56 in 2004 - not 2005. My information comes from the "Athletes" section of the IAAF site - not the Top Lists.
