He's on the startlist for Brussels:

    BRATHWAITE Ryan
    CLARKE Lawrence
    DEGHELT Adrien
    MERRITT Aries
    OLIVER David
    PARCHMENT Hansle
    RICHARDSON Jason
    SHUBENKOV Sergey
    WILSON Ryan

He needs to win to wrestle the DL title from Richardson. Currently Richardson leads Merritt 14-10, but with pts of 8, 4 & 2 up for grabs a win will at least tie. A tie is broken by # of wins, which is currently two apiece (Richardson - NY, Lausanne, Merritt - Monaco, Birmingham).

There is no 110mH scheduled for Rieti.

I thought that Merritt was running those sub-13s because Jason Richardson was usually in the race and was pushing him. But I see in Berlin, Richardson was not in the race, and he still dropped a sub-13. WOW!!

Re: Merritt closing in on sub-13s record

Merritt's last 7 finals have been truly remarkable (unprecedented?) in their quality and consistency.

        To wit:

        12.96w (2) Eugene
        12.93 (1) OT
        12.93 (1) London
        12.93 (1) Monaco
        12.92 (1) OG
        12.95 (1) Birmingham
        12.97 (1) Berlin

That's 7 consecutive meets within .05 of each other, 6 consecutive legal under 13.00. Has anyone done either of these things before?

(edit: I realize that he has (unfortunately) 2 false-start DQs during this period. So, consecutive "finishes" would be more accurate. Still, an amazing series of races. )

And a 12.94 in the Olympic semis and a 13.03 in the OT semis. Depending on what happens tomorrow, this must the number one or two season ever for a male high hurdler (with Robles' 2008 season).

This is the reason why I believe the world record is due to be considerably lowered rather sooner than later. There has been a total of 43 times all-time run within 10/100 of the world record, 15 within 5/100 of a second or in other words no less than 12 different athletes within 10/100 of a second which seems like a huge outlier compared to most other events. Maybe this is because of the nature of the 110mH, but percentage wise the crowded top seems just about impossible.
It is an outlier compared to other events, particularly other sprinting-type events. I think that the reason is that you are really constrained from going much faster because you cannot increase your stride length, the only thing that you can do for most of the race is increase your turnover. You have to do 48 steps to the 10th hurdle, except the top few guys have worked on doing one less to the first hurdle. Imagine Bolt not increasing his stride at all after 15-20 meters. And one of every four of those through the hurdle phase is longer, the other three shorter.

Well, so much for all of those times being within such a narrow window.....

Seven race average of 12.92-... And this last with 0.3+
