Re: Home D./ homeboy 400 picks
Satch, are you serious? I can think of at least 5 guys I'd pick ahead of these. Then again, my predictions usually suck. Your winning time also looks conservative."A beautiful theory killed by an ugly fact."

Re: Home D./ homeboy 400 picks
And Calvin H. is almost certain to go down in the drug wars. This based not on idle speculation, but on fact that if his modafinil case holds up (and all have so far) it's a second offense, since he had a stimulant rap back in high school. They're likely to therefore invoke the two year penalty. I'm not sure about all these drugs, but strikes me he might be getting a bit of a raw deal in that the one he was busted for the first time is nwo on the legal list. Anybody confirm/deny that? Of course, he still broke the rules twice (assuming modafinil guilt).

Re: Home D./ homeboy 400 picks
Calvin H won't be able to keep up with either Jeremy Wariner or Darold Williamson.
In fact, I'll climb on the ledge and predict that all our 400 guys will be collegians, and that one of them (I pick Wariner) will go under 44 in the Trials final.

Re: Home D./ homeboy 400 picks
flyboat7, that reminds me of 1992, when Watts did so well in the NCAA. Right then and there I predicted that he would come on like Gangbusters and win the OG and boy was I ever right on that.
I just think it would be so neat if it happened again. No knock on the "vets" like the Harrisons, Young, and Washington, but we need some new blood in the 400 real badly.

Re: Home D./ homeboy 400 picks
It's no secret that collegians have been posting faster times than the veterans at 400 meters thus far this year. It remains to be seen, however, how this translates into success in Sacto. It may well be that Washington, Young, Brew, the Harrisons, et al, have been doing just what they need to do to be ready in July, while the collegians have been running their wheels off with the indoor season, big relay meets, conference meets, regionals and NCAA nationals. I certainly wish our young crop of 400 meter guys well. Some of them are clearly good enough to make it to Athens. But I think it's a bit premature to write off all the old pros.
We'll all find out soon enough. It's one of those things that makes the sport so interesting.
