Re: Alan Webb - The Good Thread!
i just got out of the shower knowing the meet was on tv. turned it on and saw the 1500 in progress and webb running right behind the pacemaker. a good 15 meters out in front. this was strange knowing how hes done in the past 2 years but man he was going. good job alan, and the announcer was wrong. you just lost a lot more weight than 20 lbs off your shoulders.

What is the title of the thread?
Not Marion, not Ottey - Webb. Webb is story of this meet! He has finally shut up the doubters. He has shown '01 wasn't a fluke. He is proving he made the correct decision to go back to Scott and a successful formula - with the foucus on individual success not earning points for a collegiate team.
I think he may still have a 3-4 seconds left in him by the end of the season. He looked very strong running the last 700m solo. 3:31, 3:32? Maybe. The speed work is just starting to kick in and confidence is obviously all the way back. Demons are gone.

Yep, but I'm European and I don't really care too much for Webb (sorry!). I think maybe the Webb-overload from this board has pushed me past the point of caring.

Jon-
In that case I would suggest you skip those threads with "Webb" in the title.
There are plenty here who do care and are happy to see him finally begin to fulfill some of the tremendous potential.

Re: Alan Webb - The Good Thread!
Message from Alan Webb to all the armchair milers and overbearing critics: "Kiss my butt!"
(Okay, it's actually just a message from me. But I certainly hope he was thinking that as he crossed the line.)
Now, let's run down the list of American milers who have an Oly A standard:
1. Alan Webb"Run fast and keep turning left."

Re: Alan Webb - The Good Thread!
Actually, I am surprised you did not know that both Robison and Krummenacker got the A standard last summer.
Robison 3:35.48
Krummenacker 3:35.33
Now Webb 3:35.70
What makes Webb's performance impressive is that he has done it early in the season and did not have to go to Europe.
I think there is no longer any doubt that Webb is going to break 3:50 for the mile someday.
These names are waiting for Webb to join the list.

Re: Alan Webb - The Good Thread!
I caught some flack at letsrun for saying Webb would win in 3:35.5. He came close - but that wind must have hampered him a bit. I think he was ready for 3:34, 3:34.5 without the breeze. Very good effort in what amounted to a solo effort. He looks as if he can hit 3:32 this season. If he can continue to develop, and maybe take a little of Snell's advice, he could be a force, have a chance for a medal in '08 when he's 25.
