  • Björn Otto 6.01m! (WL/NR) [19-8½]

Today in Aachen - cleared 5.91 in his third attempt, then 6.01 with his second. Even more impressive when you consider that Mohr and Dilla finished a distant second and third with 5.56m respectively.

    Wow!

That was a PV only meet in downtown Aachen, not in a stadium, right?

Does anyone know if they got a proper survey of the runway? There's a new IAAF rule this year that basically says for a mark to count it has to be on a runway that has been surveyed and proven to meet the rules, which means all of the street vaults and such have to get surveyed for the marks to count.

There's now a video, filmed from quite a distance, but it looks like a clean jump without touching the bar too much.

I'm sure it was surveyed. It was Germany not El Paso.

I'm glad to see Otto showing that old guys can still get it up. It's been a long time coming for him. He first jumped over 5.50 in 1998 and 5.80 in 2004!

Yes, the organizers of the meet specifically stated (prior to the meet) that they built the runway in accordance with the DLV so that the marks would officially be recognized.

Talk about a raised runway!! I've always thought there's something funky about raised runways. The one time I jumped on one, I definitely felt bouncier/springier. Might be psychological.
34 years old and PRs - nice!

Otto has had a fantastic year, and many were predicting he would be the next over 6 meters.

As awesome as that is and as happy as I am for Otto, I'm glad the Frenchman won the Olympic gold. I just felt that he was, kind of, 'due', based on his last few years of great performances.

But, I do feel for the (non Gold medal) guys who bust out an amazing performance just weeks after the Olympics.

Great for Otto. Is Walker injured? 5.21????
