I didn't even list KB with his 2 points at the beginning because I figured it would take an impossible sequence of events for him to win.

But he wins the overall with 3rds in Monaco and Lausanne and a win here. As you say, case in point.

what in the heck is santos doing running at this time of year? he's been going for what six months plus?

you do not want to run at your peak any longer than 3 months, young or old.
you can extend the season by taking a rest week followed by a reconditioning week or two.
santos demonstrated unbelievable strength this year, too bad he did not amortize that strength over the next several years.

i hope if things do not go so well for santos next year he cuts the season short and recovers for 2014
