    One reason track is the No. 2 participatory sport in high school is because it's a no-cut sport. Lots of kids do track just to have an after-school activity or for social reasons. In addition, lots of fall and winter athletes use track just to stay in shape. Sure, a fair amount of kids enjoy the sport but the large number of participants don't tell the full story. Just thought I'd add some perspective.

      I suspect the fans of football and basketball in that area do not hesitate to venture out to a game notwithstanding the fact that there may be a bigger game two weeks later.
