  • 2013 USATF Media Guide and FAST Annual

I'm wondering if this book will be available in a print edition this year.
Last year, it was advertised in the May issue of T&FN.
    This year, no ad!
I can't find any info on it on the USATF website about it.

Hopefully, it WILL be available in a print edition.
I rely on this book for research and at-hand information almost every day!!

Anyone know why no ad in T&FN?

I've already gotten my dues notification from FAST and the blurb did indeed say that I would be receiving my FAST Annual when done.

        Thanks for the quick response.
Still wondering why they didn't advertise.
Last year, they did....in the May issue.

Anyway, do you have a link to the price, and address where to send the $$$??
Otherwise, I'll have to wait till the June issue of T&FN, hoping they advertise it then!

Which as I've been kvetching at them for years, is absolutely nuts. The U.S. season runs from January through June, so not only has 2/3 of the season gone by at this juncture, April is by far the busiest month of the year.

In an electronic age where prople expect everything yesterday, producing a book that features 2012 lists at a time when the 2013 one is largely formed doesn't cut it for me.

Of course, if USATF wants to take a narrow view of its mission, and serve only meets in which it is directly involved, rather than overseeing the sport as a whole, I can better understand the stance.

When my TAFWA renewal came, this was included in the notice...

"Dues must arrive before the end of April if you want a copy of the 2013 USATF Media Guide and FAST Annual (to be published by 1 May)."

The IAAF Annual comes out very late also. The reason that T&FN can produce the annual issue so promptly (and eTNs every four seconds) can be directly attributed to their OCD work-aholic taskmaster. Not every organization can survive the brutal pace that T&FN sustains.

you know not of what you speak: our "pace" has nothing to do with it.

The reason Peter Matthews' Athletics Annual comes out so late (May) is because they include (in its back pages) the complete indoor season lists from that year.

Since the indoor season ends about March 10, getting the book out by early May is pretty impressive!!

The World Almanac, in Presidential election years, has the complete election results, and comes out by December!!

P.S. I'm not a member of either FAST or TAFWA or USATF, so I've depended on the ad for the book that appears in T&FN. Last year, it appeared a month earlier than usual.
                    This year...not.
That's why I asked for the address and the cost....so I could order it now instead of waiting for next month's T&FN!!

Re: 2013 USATF Media Guide and FAST Annual

TAFWA and FAST are now a single organization, Jack Pfeifer is president, and bambam is a (most honorable) member.

I'm editor of the FAST Annual. The book will again be available in a print edition. The copy for the FAST Annual (the final 541 pages of the 2013 book) was essentially ready in February, a little later than usual because some lists had to be reassigned. As in 2012, the current publisher scheduled the book's delivery date for the Penn Relays weekend. That is their decision. This project is a complex undertaking, and we are happy to have an excellent product at the end of the process. This year's FAST section includes completely reworked all-time lists, deeper year lists (for 2012) than previous editions, new collegiate lists, more detailed indexes, and some graphical improvements that we hope will make the information easier to access.

Prices and ordering information for the Annual are the same as shown in the 2012 T&FN ads, which I don't have at hand right now. As soon as we receive our copies of the book, and your payment (sent to PO Box 192252, San Francisco 94119-2252, or via PayPal), we'll mail to you.

As always, your additions/corrections/ideas/gripes are welcome.

Ps. Athletics 2013 appears when it does not because Peter is awaiting the conclusion of the indoor season. He is still revising lists and index material into March, and the copy then needs to be formatted and printed -- a very big job.

Re: 2013 USATF Media Guide and FAST Annual

Would it be feasible to provide an electronic version in February to those that pay and then distribute the volume on the sprint schedule? Of course, the issue of electronic copying could be a big barrier.

Thanks so much for the info!!
But the address listed in the ad for the book is in Illinois, not San Francisco!
I'll mail a money order TODAY if you can tell me WHICH address is the one to mail to!!

Also, am I to imply by your post that the book will be ONLY the FAST part??
Will the book include BOTH (FAST and the USATF Media Guide)...or just the FAST portion??
                          Thanks again!!

Re: an electronic FAST Annual: All things are possible in the future. Copyright protection would mandate a view-only version.

Re: ordering: The San Francisco address is new for 2013. The books will be mailed from Illinois, but the $$ should be sent to California.

The book includes the USATF Media Guide as well as the FAST Annual. I/we are responsible only for the latter, and don't know what this year's front section will contain.
