  • Oregon Twilight--Rupp runs 7:46.34

In the highlight event of the meet, Galen Rupp beat Dathan Ritzenhein in a 7:46.34 3K, Ritz doing 7:47.65.
Rupp looked over his shoulder in the final 100, maybe helping Ritz to a fast time.
    He looked totally controlled.

Diriba Degefa ran 7:49.09 in 3rd.

Matt Centrowitz ran 1:47.95 for 800, winning the race.
(Didn't see this race, as the livestream blitzed out during the entire race!!! :x )

Bridget Franek ran a steeple in 9:46.99.

Maybe the biggest surprise of the meet was Hillary Holt of College of Idaho.
She ran away from Jemma Simpson in the last lap.....with a 63 final 400!!.....running 4:11.62!!
    Simpson ran 4:15.87.
The announcer said her previous best was 4:15 or so.
    Never heard of Holt before!

Sam Crouser threw the javelin 76.15m, the 3rd-furthest in the NCAA this season (Sam Humphreys/81.40m; Tim Glover/77.24m). Cyrus Hostetler (74.93m) finished runner-up. Britney Henry won the hammer with a 68.00m toss. Greg Skipper (yes of the talented Skipper clan—nephew to ex-Duck vaulter Tommy Skipper as well as the late Art Skipper, Jr) won the hammer with a 65.20m toss. A few Ducks were able to climb up the UO all-time lists in the vault and high jump, respectively.

Previous best, as far as I can tell, was 4:18.82, from Stanford Invite a few weeks ago. She is an NAIA champion (but I don't really follow NAIA -- I stick with the big time...D3...)

Here is her profile from College of Idaho (NAIA):
      http://www.yoteathletics.com/roster.asp ... ath=wtrack
and also this news release from their site about her 4:11
      http://www.yoteathletics.com/news/2013/ ... 32117.aspx

She had already made some significant progress this spring in relation to her previous PBs, with the 4:18 & a 4:19 and 800s in 2:07 & 2:09. So, this 4:11.62 is another (big) step forward.

Rupp and Ritz looked like they were doing a tempo run. Rupp cruised the last lap just hard enough to win (58ish), Ritz worked a bit harder the last 200.

Centro probably could've gone 1:46 low. He was boxed in the back of the pack for about 600m and was still working through traffic until the final 80-90 meters.

Digefa listed in results as Fr unattached. meaning? Freshman at Oregon or elsewhere?

Ranger, You make it sound so passive: by running a desultory race, he allowed himself to be not only "boxed" but nearly losing contact. No excuse w/ a moderate pace like that.

Wish Rupp had followed thru w/ announced plans to run the 800m; he would've tromped Centrowicz! Shades of Nick Symmons--and Alan Webb, for that matter--giving themselves the luxury of relying on a superior kick. Fine for local meets like this (the Sprints were incredibly mediocre, w/ several HS-ish times like 11s in 100m). Guess Oregon, and the rest of the NW, thinks Track means Distance(s).

                  I am here, Sir!

Frankly, I have no idea who is on the Oregon team, so I am of little use there.
