  • Olympic Games 100m rematch June 1st - Eugene DL

The Eugene DL will feature a rematch of the womens 100m finalists from the 2012 London Olympics. This should be an excellent tune up race for the athletes running in their trials a few weeks later.

    Women’s 100 Meters startlist

    Carmelita Jeter (USA)
    Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (Jamaica)
    Kerron Stewart (Jamaica)
    Veronica Campbell-Brown (Jamaica)
    Tianna Bartoletta (USA)
    Allyson Felix (USA)
    Blessing Okagbare (Nigeria)
    Murielle Ahoure (Ivory Coast)

The last time Jeter, Fraser and Veronica ran in Eugene together was in 2010 and that was a classic race.

    Enjoy

Tianna Bartoletta [nee Madison] (USA), to avoid possible confusion.

This is just one of a large number of stellar events at Pre -- I cannot decide which I like most, and they are only half way through the announcements. Clearly TJ has done it again (Thanks, Nike also).

Jeter and Fraser may not have much to prove in this race since they both have automatic bye's to the WC 100m. Jeter as the defending champion from 2011 and Fraser the DL 100 winner from 2012.

Perfect race for VC to repeat.

Interesting assessment of the race dynamics, jamboy.

Not sure as athletes they approach races with the automatic bye in place, if they're on the line, they want to win. Fraser-Pryce looked good in her 200m and VCB's pick up in Jamaica was impressive. Now it just depends on how healthy Jeter is.

The track is fast, so if its warm, perhaps another 10.8 winning time.

the Pre site has an ongoing list of fields as announced. As you say, we're only halfway through, but the meet could play out with only these events and I think everybody would be quite happy.

This is why i like the women's sprints. Every once in a while we get them all together for a nice clash

I guess you meant another 10.7 time. Veronica had won the race in 2010 in 10.78.

Interesting correction jamboy..But I guess it's also possible that Speedster really meant another 10.8 winning time, since without the helping tailwind in 2010 VCB's 10.78 converts to about 10.82 or 10.83, and there's no guarantee of an equivalent or greater helping wind in Eugene this year.. And more importantly as far as your evidence goes, don't forget Carmelita Jeter who ran even faster at Pre in 2011 than VCB ran in 2010, (in winning the race AND when adjusted for wind, 10.78 +0.8 for VCB in 2010 vs 10.70 + 2.0 for Jeter in 2011).

Exactly Blues, I just think that this year it will be won in 10.8 given all the parameters that you discussed. I'd love to see faster but don't think we will unless we get a 1.5-2.0 wind.

The winning time will be at least a 10.75.
