Sure, and they have the rights to the video? One reason that it is grainy is that they lack the rights to actually provide the video and thus there is not much incentive for someone that is 'good' and has the right equipment and training to do the video -- plus, they are more likely to know and understand the rights issues.

Complaining that a pirated feed is not in HD quality. Now that’s pathetic

The free live feed that most of you guys were watching was a pirated feed. The right holders got wind of the “pirated” feed and that is why you saw a couple messages on the bottom of the screen to that effect.

I paid for the actual feed and the quality was slightly better. Also, I didn’t get any feed hiccups or frozen screens. A few who watched the pirated feed “complained” the feed froze or got cut just before the mens 100m.

There has been high quality broadcasts out of Jamaica before. Last year, when Sportsmax broadcasted the 2012 Boys and Girls champs, the live internet feed was in HD quality(720P) and it was beautiful. I even attached my laptop to my TV and it was like watching a regular TV channel.
Sportsmax is a large company(our Caribbean version of ESPN) and they have huge financial resources to get the right equipment to show HD feeds as well having enough bandwidth to satisfy whenever hundreds of thousands of people log on. This is not an easy task and it costs a lot of money as well and that is why most of these broadcasts are subscription based.
Be happy you got to watch a “pirated” feed for free. You may not be that lucky when it comes around to the Jamaica trials next month.

I tried to watch the pay-per-view but there seemed to be some browser incompatibility issues, so the freebie, with all of its warts, had to do.

These pay-per-views are generally priced pretty reasonably and a no-brainer for the rabid fan. I have been especially enjoying Flotrack's coverage of some of the US meets. Unfortunately, many of us will have to suffer the loss of the entire DL season webcasts, since Universal Sports is tying their availability to cable/satellite subscriptions. If your provider is not on the list, you are screwed. :evil:

I had some browser issues as well on the PPV site. I emailed their customer support. Got a response within a few minutues. She gave me a suggestion and it worked perfectly afterwards.

That same PPV outfit will also be livestreaming the Jamaica trials next month. They have already contacted the rogue "pirated" website about a pending lawsuit. This is not the first time this "rogue" site have offered up pirated material.




It is a damm shame that millions of folks here in the US won't be able to watch this year's DL meet. The IAAF needs to work alot closer with USA Track and Field, NBC, Universal Sports and Comcast to fix this issue.

Why don't they move or replay all these meets at least on the NBC Sports Network which is available on every home since it is part of basic cable.

Folks in Jamaica have been able to watch the Diamond League and the former Golden League live on local TV for the past few years.

USA Track and Field needs to show some leadership to our dying sport here. At least they tried a few years ago when they wanted to start up a Track and Field TV channel. They got alot of pushback from the IOC due to the IOC owning the rights to the Olympic Games.
