  • Injuries, ailments: Who's left to compete?

Okay, so the title might be slightly ( ) over-stating the case, but.....

Aries Merritt isn't running NY because of a "hammy" problem.
SAFP pulled out of her duel with A Felix.
Mr Bolt and Mr Blake had/have some problems.
Carmelita Jeter had a hammy problem.
While not an injury, Vivian Cheruiyot is pregnant, and won't run WC.

    What gives?
    How serious are these problems?
Who will actually show at USATF and/or WC??
Who will compete at less than top quality because of injury setbacks?

And we're talking TIER ONE athletes here!!

Let's not forget that Eaton and Hardee have pulled out of Gotzis.

      Isn't Jeter a thigh issue?

SAFP is simply afraid of Felix. There's no other explanation.

Athletes have to be especially careful regarding injuries as they prepare for a major championship, but on occasion it unfortunately still arouses the skeptic in me when athletes withdraw from or avoid competitions leading up to a WC or Olympics.

She nevers runs from competition though ......... she's been running a good set this year so far, maybe her coach just made the decision based on the supposedly hamstring precaution .

athletes at the high level are always redlining between being in top shape for top performance, oncethey go past this point, they get injured.

the good thing about this sport is new stars pop up every year.

                    Pregnancy is serious.

Mary Keitany, Lauren Fleshman, Lee McConnell, and Chaunte Lowe are out this season for the same reason. Probably others, too.

Lowe harbors ambitions to return and has the wild card to assist. She is very fit in general, but that is a short time interval!

As his recent results imply, shot putter Christian Cantwell is recovering from surgery.

Aaronk...you overstating the case... surely thats not possible.
The athletes referred to above will be competing in 11 weeks time, despite your headline, except, of course, for the women who will have more important things to concern them than track and field.
