UCLA's Sani Roseby placed 2nd to teammate Sheena Johnson in her West Regional 100 hurdles prelim, advancing to the final in 13.34. After crossing the line, she fell and broke two bones in her right hand.
I saw her as she was leaving the meet with her team, her hand wrapped in an Ace bandage.
"Did you break your hand?" I asked. She told me she had and explained the break.
"Are you going to run tomorrow?" I asked.
"Yeah, I'm gonna run," she answered... smiling! "This is Regionals."
I think competition is the essence of the sport and instantly became a huge Sani Roseby fan. But I'm sure anti-Regionals folks, perhaps including her coach, Jeannette Bolden, will say it was a pity she had to run this meet, get hurt and make her road to a high NCAA placing that much harder.
What do you think?
