With the news now confirming that Blake is out, and that the wildcard is likely to go to Bolt (as DL winner), that means that Carter should be in for the individual 100m....

"Contrary to persistent rumors, multiple relay gold medallist Nesta Carter has not failed a drugs test and is preparing for upcoming meets, including the IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia next month, his agent Adrian Laidlaw told the Jamaica Observer yesterday. Carter, who ran a season's best 9.87 seconds to win a 100m race in Madrid, Spain on Saturday, making him the fastest Jamaican man this year and second only to under fire American sprinter Tyson Gay, was linked in several international media houses with failed drugs tests starting on Sunday."

That 9.87 was just barely legal, though, wasn't it?

An interesting example is Kenya where Kemboi won in Daegu and Koech won DL last year. I hear that both believe they have wild card to WCH!

Shivfan's comment "now that Blake has withdrawn the wild card for the 100m will most likely go to Bolt" is correct in the sense that yes it does go to Bolt but that is because he won the DL, not as is implied (ie by the comment 'most likely'!!) because the Jamaicans elected to give it to Bolt. If for some reason Bolt was not able to compete (heaven forbid!) then the Jamaicans couldn't give it to someone else. In that situation they could only have three 100m runners.
That's how you misinterpreted my post....it is obvious from the earlier discussions that we were discussing Jamaica giving the wild card to Bolt in his capacity as DL winner for 2012. I don't know where you've drawn the conclusion about Jamaica giving the wild card to anyone else other than Bolt.

That's what I'm wondering. I'm not familiar with the multis and the series they have. But it just seems that it would not make sense for the IAAF to omit this athletes from the wild card opportunity.

Also another thing, but I assume this year's champion gets nothing.

That made me think, Is there any series of meets of competitions that the IAAF would allow an athlete in the decathlon/heptathlon to earn a wild card for worlds?
    No.

I think we're all on the same page now (except perhaps for the Kenyan steeplechasers). I've commented on the situation in the Yohan Blake thread.

gh is entirely correct. If Jamaica uses Bolt's 100m wild card, they can enter a 4th man in the Moscow 100.

As stated in my first post, the list was taken from a letsrun thread, which I also linked to. I didn't realize that the author had omitted those events. I've added the hammer athletes in the list above. Thanks for pointing it out.

gh is entirely correct. If Jamaica uses Bolt's 100m wild card, they can enter a 4th man in the Moscow 100.

the IAAF official was wrong (far as I know). Choice between the two was left to the individual federations. And any ongoing decision the federation makes isn't binding at the IAAF level. As noted on other thread, when actual entry time comes IAAF will look at your people, and if you've got a legit wild card, they're in.

As in, U.S. could change its 110H wild card from Richardson to Merritt at this point and the IAAF wouldn't care.

No that's not correct, Carter is not now in......the wildcard is for an individual not for a country.

To reply to a previous comment re individual Federations decide whether 2011 world champ or 2012 DL winner gets wildcard (in the cases where they have both) my understanding (I haven't seen it written but was told by a senior IAAF official) that the reigning world champion takes preference.
