Afternoon all, very curious to hear peoples predictions 123 in the following events at the world championships.
mens/womens 400m hurdles
mens/ womens 1500m
mens/ womens 800
mens/ womens 110/100m hurdles
mens/ womens triplejump

Also during 2012 a few athletes who had shown no real form in the build up to the games went on to take gold or medal

Can any of you gaze into the crystal ball to pick out any unlikely winners for 2013?

sorry back to the questions; Here's a few humble opinions
400H Culson and Hejnova should prevail on paper, but we all know how well paper holds up at championships
110H Merritt appears back on form, but after Paris this could be the best event at Moscow./100H Rollins will she have enough gas to continue her incredible season.
TJ also seems to have favorites Pichardo and Ibarguen but they each have a good list of possible beaters including Taylor who should be the men's fav going in but Pichardo is showing better form at the moment.

I do keep the right to change my mind at least twice maybe 3 or 4 .... times in the next 4 weeks.

Too early to make predictions.
People still chasing A's and B's, injuries popping up or getting better/worse, not certain who's in what events, also Monaco and London (etc) could produce some interesting results.

Ask again in early August!

Didnt I read somewhere that bolt already has his three golds hanging around his neck while SAFP has her gold in the 100 ?
Anyway I totally agree that anything can happen in the month prior to the meet including people bring suspended by their own federation like Ortega !

Great set up.

Add me to those that think Jeter will not be quite ready for prime time (in the sense of first). She might medal, but with Okagbare having the best chance to take down SAFP, Jeter is more likely in the running to get the Bronze. It is not impossible, but it seems like a lot to come back from when she was marginal in beating SAFP last year.

I think Gay has a chance to beat Bolt, but that chance is small, not large (5-20%, not 33-50%). I doubt Bolt will false start again (I thought it not unlikely in 2011) unless he runs into additional physical problems that affect is first 30m, and I think that is unlikely.

It's still quite early for predictions, but Shelly Is my favorite to win the 100m. I'll wait until the end of the month to sort out the other placings/ events.

I saw where jeter will be running her first 100 since shanghai tomorrow in Budapest so we shall see how she is holding up then. I'm not ready to count her out yet nor am I ready to give the gold to SAFP.....

i really cant see gay beating bolt, i remember last year thinking Blake was going to beat bolt at the 100m but after the semi final it became very clear bolt was still no 1.
I really think it will be the same this year.

As for Okagbare i think she has the natural talent to win but im not sure mentally she can get it right on the big occasion.
She was awful in the Olympic final and came last.
She clearly had the beating of safp at the last meet at Paris but dipped 15 meters too early i can see something like this happening again.

So much for that. Is the only way Bolt loses now is if he False starts? Even then I bet he wins. :wink: But I still think Okagbare could win.
