  • 100m Womens Euro-Under 23 record

Just wondering - looking at the results for the EuroU23 events. The womens 100m record is listed as Ivet Lalova at 11.00.
Why is the 10.88 by Marlies Goehr from 1977 not recognised. Was it not a WR for some time?

I think she has the World Junior record

Exactly - if her 10.88 is good enough to be a WR and still a World Junior Record - would it not qualify as the European Under-23 record - there seem to be a number of East German times which do.

Yes I noticed too, and wondered why it's Lalova 11.00 and not that 10.77 i always considered doubtfull (I think about the 10,77 there was some problems with the chronometer - who mesured bad only the winner's time ( - like it was in Edmonton 2001 in the 100men QFs (altough in Edmonton they've decided it was wind gauge problem) I have talk with a bulgarian guy he told me that the competetion in 2004 with the 10.77 was broadcasted on bulgarian TV, but they never showed the race again after that, although they've talked alot about Lalova showing diffrent videos from diffrent races but they never showed the 10.77 run) (btw Peter Petrev the bulgarian male 100m record holder (bronze in Moscow'80) stated in the yellow press that if he was Nuneva he would have sue the Bulgarian Track&Field federation to reinstate Nuneva's record back He things the time was measured 2 meters before the line) So if Bulgarian are hiding the video with the 10.77 I understand that it's not recognized as european U23 record and I'm sorry about Nuneva for her bulgarian record (and for that 1988 final).
        But now, why it"s not Gohr 10.88 I don'tknow

They did not show it again because it was clearly a jumped gun. No one that I know of thinks it a legit mark, even though she ran a pretty fast race (probably ran a 10.9x after taking out hte false start advantage).

Jon posted the pics of the start once.

She's about a metre up before anyone else has even started. Obvious flyer and the fact that the result has stood is shocking.

I'm no sure there is any such thing as an official EuroU23 record :?

A lot of the listed Euro U23 records are plain weird; this is far from being the only case. Tilastopaja has all-time Euro U23 lists here and many AURs are #2, #3, #4 or not even on the list.

Actually "Under-23" is a bit of a misnomer. It's the 20-22 age group and excludes juniors.
Rule 403.3 "Only athletes aged at least 20 (twenty) and not more than 22 (twenty two) years on 31 December of the year of the competition may participate in the European Athletics U23 Championships."

I suppose the same rule exists for records.
So juniors can set senior records but not "u23".

And i think they also require a doping test, which would explain why many results from the 70s/80s are not recognised.
